This application aims to guide the plastic surgeon in choosing the number, shape and volume of skin expanders needed to obtain a given area of skin flap to be used in a reconstructive surgery. The information provided is the area of flap gain, from which has been subtracted the retraction of the skin and dog ear (20%) and also the skin required to cover the site where the expander was implanted.The proposed calculations presented are useful when the expansion is performed over a rigid or semi-rigid substrate.
